Douglas J. Sumpter
Douglas J. Sumpter, 75, Bremen, passed away at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at Elkhart Hospice House. He was born Jan. 2, 1941, in Bremen, to Gerald and Greta (Berg) Sumpter.
He lived most of his life in Bremen. He enjoyed playing the game Aggravation, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church Acts 4:12 in Bremen. Doug married Mary Ketcham on Sept. 18, 1965, in Bremen. She passed away on Nov. 7, 1996.
Surviving are children: Rick (Linda) Sumpter, Bremen; Jerry Humes, Plymouth; Katrina (Scott) Ervin, Rochester; Roger (Madonna) Dickson, Elkhart; Donald Dickson, Rochester; George Dickson, Plymouth; Eddie Dickson, Pharr, Texas; Peggy (Larry) Earnest, Ober; and Linda (Charles) Craig, Rochester; 40 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Doug was preceded in death by his wife: Mary; his parents; a granddaughter: Angela Dickson; and a brother: Robert Sumpter.
Friends and family may call at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, until the 1 p.m. funeral service at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Wakarusa. Pastor John Bollinger will officiate. Burial will follow at Eagle Creek Cemetery, in Starke County.
