Man Breaks Nose and Orbital Bone Of Woman
WARSAW — A man who broke the nose and orbital bone of a woman on Dec. 26, has been arrested.
Jerett Wayne Smith, 38, 904 W. Market St., Pierceton, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail Tuesday, Jan. 5, on charges of battery causing serious bodily injury, a level 5 felony, and battery a class A misdemeanor. The misdemeanor charge has been enhanced to a level 5 felony due to an Oct. 2, 2015, conviction in which the victim was the same individual. Smith was also booked on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia, found at the time of his arrest.
Documents filed with the courts on Tuesday, state Warsaw Police Officer Samuel B. Weaver was called to Kosciusko Community Hospital for a battery report. He met with the victim, Mandy Schultz, who reported the assault occurred at her residence.
She told police she was in an argument with Smith when he punched her in the face. The assault was witnessed by another individual, who confirmed Schultz’s statement. The emergency room doctor told police the nasal fracture and fractured orbital bone to the right eye would require surgical evaluation.
Smith is being held on a $10,000 surety bond and $1,000 cash bond on the battery charges. He is also being held on a $10,000 surety bond on the possession of meth charge.
