Bernita E. Bigler
Bernita E. Bigler, 94, Goshen, died 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 20, 1921 in Alton, Kan. to Roland and Zanna (Garinger) Gregory. She married Lavoid F. Bigler on Sept. 12, 1947 in Fort Wayne and he died March 27, 2005.
Bernita was a nurse and worked at South Bend Memorial in pediatrics and at a nursing home in Goshen. She was a 1939 graduate of South Side High School, Fort Wayne, attended Marion College (now Indiana Wesleyan), Marion, and graduated in 1946 from Memorial Hospital South Bend in nurses training. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and was a member of the Missionary Church.
Surviving are two sons: Tom Bigler, Whittier, Calif.; Jere (Susie) Bigler, Goshen; a daughter: Mary Ruth (Robert) Stamets, Spencerville; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister: Ruth Schoeff, Fort Wayne;
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; son: Stephen Bigler; and brothers: Vernon and Glenn Gregory.
Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, with the service following at 3 p.m. all at Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. Pastor Craig Garber will officiate and burial will be in New Paris Cemetery.
