Local Family Welcomes ‘First Baby Born In 2016’
WARSAW — The birth of any child is an occasion to celebrate for many. For one family, the already joyous event was made even sweeter when told their daughter was the first child born at Kosciusko Community Hospital in 2016.
Michelle Rivas gave birth to Everest Lee Butts at 9:05 a.m. Friday, Jan. 1. The newborn weighed 6 pounds 8 ounces and measured 18 1/2 inches. Though Rivas notes she and Everest’s father, Emerson C. Butts Jr., knew she would be born around Jan. 4, they didn’t expect she would be the first born child in 2016 at KCH.
“When I found out my due date Jan. 4, I had a feeling she’d come on New Years but definitely didn’t think she’d be so competitive to be first in the county,” stated Rivas.
The couple were given a celebratory gift basket from KCH which included infant toys, socks, stuffed animal ducks and balloons to mark the occasion. Everest resides in Warsaw with siblings Zoriah Aria Rose, Arianna Lynn and brother Ayden Scott.
