Kosciusko
Officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department investigated the following accidents:
12:10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, South SR 15, north of West CR 200S, Warsaw. Driver: Jeffery R. Price, 34, West Center Street, Warsaw. The driver had left the scene before police arrived. Police found the vehicle went off west side of the road, hitting a tree. Damage up to $10,000.
7:49 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, East CR 450N and North CR 250E Warsaw. Driver: Emily L. Nusbaum, 19, East Nordman Drive, Syracuse. Nusbaum’s vehicle slid on the ice covered road, going off the road, hitting a NIPSCO pole. Damage up to $10,000.
7:01 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, East CR 500N and North CR 200N, Warsaw. Driver: Isabella E. Hamilton, 22, East Levi Lee Road, Warsaw. Hamilton’s vehicle hit black ice causing her to lose control, leaving road and hitting sign. Damage up to $10,000.
5:09 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, North Syracuse-Webster Road, north of East CR 1000N, Syracuse. Police found an unoccupied vehicle, registered to Daryle L. Smith, South Manor Drive, Syracuse. The vehicle was northbound and failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle went off the road, hit a phone box, then a fence and continued north, crossing back over the road, going into a ditch for a distance before re-entering the road for 500 feet, going back off the road hitting a power pole and breaking it off. Damage was estimated up to $50,000.
1:20 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, East US 30 and South SR 13, Pierceteon. Drivers: Ann Schoner, 49, Country Knoll, St. Joseph, Mich. and Jessica R. Schowe, 19, North Clinton Street, Fort Wayne. Schoner’s vehicle struck the back of the Schowe vehicle. Damage under $750.
10:51 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, North CR 350W, south of West US 30, Warsaw. Driver: Brian A. Buckles, 30, East 400S, Columbia City. Hit deer. Damage up to $2,500.
3 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, East Harper Road and South Old SR 15, Leesburg. Lorri A. Brookins, 39, East Van Buren Street, Leesburg. Brookins’ vehicle went off the road, collided with a stop sign and hit a telephone pole, then ran over the rail road tracks. The vehicle left the scene. Police followed a fluid trail on the road, which went west on Van Buren street, south on Canal Street, east in an alley to a garage at 306 E. Van Buren St. When the driver turned down the alley, the vehicle hit a utility pole. Brookins stated she had fallen asleep and hit the stop sign and pole. She suffered an abrasion to the face, but was not transported to a hospital. Damage up to $5,000.
2:07 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, North CR 700W, north of West CR 550N, Atwood. Driver: Jennifer R. Moran, 37, South Rowland Avenue, Leesburg. Moran’s vehicle hit a patch of ice on the roadway, causing her to lose control of her vehicle, skidding off the west side of the road, hitting a large tree. Moran contacted a family member who came to pick her and her two children up and transported them to her residence. Moran was transported to Kosciusko Community Hospital for a large laceration to her head and right forearm. Damage up to $10,000.
7:43 a.m. Friday, Jan. 1, North SR 13, south of East Old Road 30, Pierceton. Driver: Joshua R. Vetor, 40, North Syracuse-Webster Road, North Webster. Hit deer. Damage up to $2,500.
11:11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, East CR 100N, west of North CR 400E, Warsaw. Driver: Dylan C. Miller, 22, EMS R4B1 Lane, Pierceton. Hit deer. Damage up to $10,000.
4:53 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, North CR 300E, north of East CR 1300N, Syracuse. Drives: Natalie A. Vela, 43, East Emerald Street, Elkhart, complained of pain to the chest. Driving a 1996 Toyota and Charles S. Smith, 63, East Camp Mack Road, Milford, Vela complained of pain to the chest and was transported to IU Health Goshen. Vela’s vehicle struck the back of the Smith vehicle then went off the road, hitting a fence post. Damage up to $5,000.
Warsaw
Officers with the Warsaw Police Department investigated the following accidents:
10:43 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, East Center Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Griffin S. Melton, 17, EMS C29 Lane, Warsaw, and Michael J. Anderson, 17, West CR 250W, Warsaw. Melton saw a friend driving toward the back of Bob Evans, so he drove toward the back of the restaurant in the opposite direction, when he went to go around the north corner of the restaurant, Anderson’s vehicle was coming towards his vehicle and the two collided. Damage up to $5,000.
2:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, Lake City Highway and North Detroit Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Peter W Gross, 73, East CR 250N, Warsaw, and Ada E. Gross, 69, East 250N, Warsaw. Peter Gross was eastbound put on right turn signal and then he rear ended the Ada Gross vehicle. Peter Gross believes he may have fallen asleep. Damage up to $10,000.
