Slow Start Key In Valley Loss
ROCHESTER – A slow start was too much to overcome for the Tippecanoe Valley boys basketball team Tuesday night.
The Vikings managed just six points in the opening half en route to dropping a 49-35 final to Fairfield in first-round play of the Winning Edge Holiday Tournament.
The Falcons led 20-6 at halftime of the contest.
Neil Clampitt led the way for Valley with 14 points. Alec Craig scored seven points and Gavin Bussard five for the Vikings, who fall to 1-6 on the season.
Brock Goeglein led the winning Falcons with 15 points and nine rebounds. Luke Stephens had 14 points and Shandon Miller 11 as Fairfield improved to 5-2.
NorthWood rolled to an 81-43 win over the host Zebras in the other contest Tuesday night.
The Panthers led 25-6 after the opening period en route to their sixth straight win. Vince Miranda paced NorthWood with 18 points in the win. Dakiyron Fox had 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Luke Zurcher had 13 points and Braxton Linville 13 assists for NorthWood, now 9-1.
Rochester drops to 1-6 on the year.
Valley will face Rochester tonight at 6 p.m. in the consolation game. NorthWood will then meet Fairfield in the championship contest. The Panthers beat the Falcons 61-42 back on Dec. 12.
