Study: Fort Wayne Ranks High Among College Cities
FORT WAYNE — When it comes to cities boasting colleges, a recent Wallet Hub study placed Fort Wayne among the top mid-sized cities in the nation.
The study examined 326 cities, then ranked them according to factors like highest and lowest adjusted cost of living, highest and lowest cost of higher education and percentage of part-time jobs. Other factors included number of college students per capita, percentage of rental units, part-time job availability, quality of higher education, night life options and “brain drain.”
The study ranked these cities overall and by size of the city. Fort Wayne came in at number 174 overall and number 63 among mid-sized cities.
Other Indiana cities included:
- Muncie, number 60 overall, number 22 among small college cities
- Bloomington, number 66 overall, number 25 among small college cities
- Indianapolis, number 110 overall, number 36 among large college cities
- Evansville, number 190 overall, number 71 among small college cities
Ann Arbor, Mich., topped the list as number one, while Paterson, N.J., came in last at number 326.
As far as individual achievements, Muncie came in at number five for adjusted cost of living for young people and number five for highest percentage of part-time jobs while Bloomington in at number one for most students per capita and number one for highest percentage of part-time jobs.
