Wieringa Takes Over As Parks Department Recreation Director
WARSAW — The Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department has a new recreation director, though not necessarily a new face.
Sheila Wieringa officially started as recreation director Nov. 9. Prior to that, she worked with the parks department as an administrative assistant since December, 2011. When she heard the recreation director position was opening, she knew it would be a good fit for her.
“It was something I thought I would enjoy and so I put my application in with the city,” she said.
Wieringa plays a major role in implementing and planning the concerts and programs the park puts on throughout the year. Her love of creativity and music have already served her well and new ideas for next year are already in the works.
“We are going to implement a coffee and canvas program for this year as well as two family movie nights in the park,” she said. “We would like to do some expanding on our senior programs and see how it goes and then we could possibly make more changes for the following year.”
Wieringa is originally from Fairmount in Grant County. She and her husband moved to Warsaw in 2010.
“We’ve loved it ever since,” she said. “I love everything this community has to offer.”
When she is not at work, Wieringa enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, ages 4 and 1.
