KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — The Smithstrong Foundation Fund was recently established at the Kosciusko County Community Foundation in memory of Charlie and Scott Smith. Michelle Smith LeDrew and Ryan Smith established the fund in memory of their father, Charlie, and their brother, Scott.

The fund will annually support Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation’s recognition of an outstanding student athlete who exemplifies the values that Charlie and Scott demonstrated in their daily lives.

Charlie Smith was Tippecanoe Valley High School’s first football coach and served as their coach for many winning seasons, including a state championship. Charlie Smith left high school coaching to go into banking, from which he retired in 2011. But, he never really stopped coaching, serving as a business and community mentor and leader until his passing.

Scott Smith was a 1990 graduate of TVHS where he was a talented student athlete. Scott Smith continued athletics as a student at Warner University where he played on the basketball team and received an accounting degree. He was also a 2000 graduate of Valparaiso University School of Law. He was a deputy prosecuting attorney in St. Joseph, Allen and Kosciusko counties and had a law practice in Warsaw.

The Smithstrong Foundation Fund is a fitting tribute to both Charlie and Scott Smith because of their love of Tippecanoe Valley High School and of athletics. Gifts to the fund are accepted and appreciated by the family of Charlie and Scott Smith and can be made payable to Kosciusko County Community Foundation, designated to the Smithstrong Foundation Fund.
