Study Ranks Best, Worst Black Friday Buys
WARSAW — With Black Friday only one week away, area residents are gearing up for some major holiday shopping. However, before they camp out Thanksgiving night or rush the doors early Friday morning, it may help consumers to consider exactly what it is they plan to buy and whether or not it is really worth what they are paying.
With this in mind, a recent WalletHub study has taken into account some of the best and worst items to buy during this year’s Black Friday frenzy.
The study analyzes Amazon’s pre-Black Friday prices on certain items, then looks at what those prices will be on the big day. Statistically, books, movies and music ranked highest on the list at at 28 percent price discount, while jewelry was at the low end, discounted at around only 4 percent. Consumer electronics, computers and phones ranked middle-of-the-road. Only a little higher were appliances and consumer packaged goods. Toys and video games, software only, tied for second place.
Toward the low end as far as savings, in descending order, were apparel and accessories, all other product categories and furniture. Overall, Wallet Hub found that, while 68 percent of items will have a significant discount for Black Friday, 14 percent will sell close to what they are currently priced at and 17 percent are slated to go up in price by that weekend.
