WCS Provides Updates on Dual Immersion Program
WARSAW — A team comprised of Eisenhower Principal Chris Gensinger, WCS central office staff and Eisenhower faculty presented updates on the dual language immersion program. This student option is scheduled to start at the kindergarten level in the fall of 2016. WCS will house this program at Eisenhower Elementary.
- In the fall of 2015, the Indiana Department of Education awarded the dual language immersion grant to Eisenhower Elementary School. Grant funds for the 2015-2016 school year are allocated for program investigation, professional development and curriculum supplies.
- Recently a team of WCS educators traveled to Utah to investigate one of the leading dual language immersion programs in the country. The dual language immersion program at Eisenhower will mirror the best practices being utilized in Utah.
- One or two sections of a dual Spanish immersion class will begin at the kindergarten level at Eisenhower in the fall of 2016. Both dual immersion and neighborhood (traditional classes) will be an option for parents. Students in this class will have 50 percent of their instruction in Spanish and 50 percent of their instruction in English.
- This class is open to all students and ability levels. This program is for parents wishing students to be multilingual in preparation for global industry.
- WCS will be monitoring the program and if community demand demand for program increases, additional languages or WCS locations could be added.
This class is open to all incoming kindergarten students. Parents have the choice of enrolling their children in this class. For more information, please contact Chris Gensinger at Eisenhower Elementary, (574) 269-7440.
