Battery Charge Enhanced For Syracuse Man
WARSAW — A charge of battery as a class A misdemeanor, has been enhanced to a level 5 felony due to a prior conviction, against Michael A. Cavender, 49, 604 E. Miami Drive, Syracuse, according to documents filed in Kosciusko Superior Court 1.
Cavender was booked Monday evening, Nov. 9, in the Kosciusko County Jail. He was booked with an address of 228 S. 725W, Kimmell. He was also charged with invasion of privacy in another matter. His bond is set at $10,000 surety and $250 cash on the battery charge and $1,500 cash on the invasion of privacy charge out of Superior Court 2.
According to the affidavit of probable cause on the battery charge, Cavender allegedly struck Michael Chalk several times in the mouth, while Chalk was sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle. The incident occurred on Aug. 13, at Green Acres Mobile Home Park.
Macey Taylor, a witness, told police she observed Cavender strike Chalk. She also stated Cavender also grabbed her and tried pulling her causing red marks on her upper left chest area.
Cavender had been convicted on July 10, in Noble County Superior II Court on battery charges, resulting in the enhanced charged.
