Man Receives Suspended Sentence
WARSAW — A man who plead guilty to a charge of invasion of privacy, a class A misdemeanor, was given one-year probation today in Kosciusko Superior 1 Court. Charges of stalking and two counts of domestic battery were dismissed.
Ryan Ray Jarrell, 28, 8266 E. CR 250S, Pierceton, received a one-year suspended sentence from Judge David Cates, but ordered to undergo non-violence counseling, have no contact with the victim, except according to parenting time, and pay his child support in a timely manner weekly.
This sentence is to run consecutive to the sentence he received in a Superior Court 2 case for invasion of privacy, a class A misdemeanor. He was given a one-year suspended sentence.
“It appears to have been a stormy romance that has ended. Let’s keep it that way,” stated Cates.
The plea agreement was entered on Sept. 24.
Court documents filed on Jan. 13, 2015 on stalking charges, give a chronological account of the various charges, which began on April 18, 2014, when a domestic battery occurred in Pierceton. At that time Jarrell forced his way into the home of Kelsay Derry and during an argument shoved Derry into the bathroom sink.
On May 31, 2014, Warsaw Police were notified that Harrell was harassing Derry after being told by officers he should have no more contact with a male individual or Derry, unless related to Derry’s and Jerrell’s child. Jarrell had sent Derry approximately 50 messages between May 30 and 31 that year unrelated to the couple’s child.
A protective order was issued on Oct. 13, 2014, however on Oct. 17, he allegedly left an intimidating voicemail on her cell phone, and had made several phone calls and sent text messages. A warrant for his arrest for invasion of privacy was issued on Oct. 17, 2014.
Police were again called on Jan. 6, 2015, with Jarrell banging on the door at a Warsaw apartment complex. Derry was inside the residence at that time. Derry told police Jerrell had been texting her throughout the day, calling her from several cell phones. On Jan. 5, he had sent 42 text messages. He was arrested at that time for violating the protective order.
