History Set In Claypool Election
CLAYPOOL — For the first time that any one can remember, neither a Democrat or Republican was elected to office.
History was made tonight with the election of Elizabeth J. Brewer to the position of clerk-treasurer for the city of Claypool. Brewer ran as a Libertarian and defeated incumbent clerk-treasurer Connie Morgan, Democrat. Brewer received 32 votes to Morgan’s 25.
There was also an upset in the race for council south district seat. Incumbent Thomas E. Burnworth Jr., Democrat, was defeated by Larry D. Neher, Republican. Neher received 31 votes to Burnworth’s 25 votes.
In the other race for the town, Elizabeth Heiman, Democrat, defeated Paul T. Berkey, Republican, for the council center district seat. Heiman received 34 votes to Berkey’s 24.
Incumbent Niki Miller, Democrat, was unopposed for the council north district seat. She received 37 votes.
Voter turnout for Claypool’s town election was at 20.86 percent with 55 machine ballots cast and three absentee ballots. There is a total of 278 registered town voters.
The precinct summary report shows there were one Democrat and one Republican straight party ballots cast.
