Dennis Wayne Emerick
Dennis Wayne Emerick, 67, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at his group home in Warsaw.
He was born in Mishawaka, to the late Thomas and Margaret (Sapp) Emerick. Dennis was preceded in death by three brothers: Thomas Jr.; George; and John and one sister: Rosemary.
Left to cherish our memories are three sisters: Beverly; Betty; and Dianna, Granger; two sisters-in-law: Ellen (Tom) Emerick, Mishawaka; and Beverly (George) Emerick, Waveland, Miss. Dennis had numerous generations of nieces and nephews.
Dennis loved to be outside. Also loved trucks, and cowboy hats. He enjoyed watching cowboy movies. Some of his favorite television programs were “Leave it to Beaver” and “Little House On The Prairie”. His music of choice was anything by the Beatles. Dennis was known as the greeter. He would meet everyone with a smile and a handshake no matter where he was or if he knew them. He was a Special Olympian. He won third place in softball pitch when the games were held at Notre Dame. That doesn’t sound like a lot but it was a major accomplishment for him.
The family will forever be grateful to the staff, doctors and nurses of Cardinal Services of Warsaw, Indiana. A very special thanks to the staff of 350 South and Winona Ave. Group Homes. They took such great care and loved him like family for 27 years. Although he had profound intellectual disabilities the day service instructors helped him reach full potential.
Finally, thank you to Kosciusko Hospice for helping Dennis and those who loved him through this difficult time. A celebration of Dennis’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka. Visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to the services on Friday. The family would like memorial contributions to be made to the Cardinal Center, Warsaw.
