MISHAWAKA – The Penn and Northridge volleyball teams each earned victories Thursday night in play of the Class 4-A Penn Sectional.

The host Kingsmen started strong and then held off Elkhart Central 3-2, while the Raiders topped NLC foe Goshen by a 3-0 count.

Penn (18-15) will face Northridge (22-8) in the second semifinal match on Saturday. Warsaw faces Elkhart Memorial in the first semifinal at 11 a.m. Saturday. The sectional championship match is slated for 7 p.m. on Saturday at Penn.

Penn defeated the Blue Blazers 25-10, 25-23, 19-25, 10-25, 15-11.

Jen Heritz paced Penn with 11 kills. Josie Engdahl had 34 assists to go with four aces and 14 digs for the Kingsmen.

Northridge defeated the Redskins 25-19, 25-19, 25-15.

Marci Miller had 11 kills and Kelly Miller had 10 kills and 11 digs to lead the Raiders.

Calsey Gruzdov led Goshen with 16 kills and 12 digs.

Elkhart Central finishes its season at 13-13. Goshen is sidelined at 17-14.
