Trojans Edge Past West Central
BOURBON – The Triton football team picked up a much-needed win Friday night.
The Trojans edged past West Central 13-12 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference and regular season finale.
Senior standout Jeremy Jones scored both touchdowns for the Trojans, who snapped a seven-game losing streak. Jones scored on a one-yard run and caught a 23-yard touchdown toss from James Snyder, both in the first quarter.
West Central, which falls to 1-8 overall and goes to 0-8 in conference play, scored in the first period but missed the PAT kick. The Trojans then scored in the third quarter, but could not convert on the two-point conversion try.
Jones had 24 rushes for 97 yards to lead the offense for Triton, which improves to 2-7 overall and finishes at 2-6 in its first year in the HNAC.
Triton had 151 yards of total offense to 136 for West Central, which had five turnovers in the contest, including four interceptions.
Freshman quarterback Snyder was 4-11 passing for 55 yards. Mason Yeo had two receptions for 24 yards and Jordan Anderson one catch for eight yards.
Triton hosts Southwood (6-3) and West Central plays at Lake Station (1-8) in first-round sectional games next Friday night.
