Woman Arrested After Wrongfully Accusing Man Of Rape
WARSAW — A Topeka woman was arrested by police Thursday morning after making a false report to police that a man had raped her. She made the report because her husband wanted to get the man in trouble.
Deybrean L. Gangwer, 32, 135 N. Harrison St., Topeka, was booked for perjury, a level 6 felony and false informing, a class B misdemeanor.
According to court documents filed by Syracuse Police Officer Joe Keene on Oct. 12, Gangwer met with Syracuse Police on Sunday, Sept. 18, to file a rape complaint. She told police, at the start of the interview that she understood she would be guilty of perjury if she made any false statements.
She told police on Sept. 8, she spent the night on the couch at her grandparents’ home. Around 2 a.m. she woke up with her ex-husband standing over her stating “I’m going to get what I deserve.” She stated her ex-husband forcefully had sexual intercourse with her and then left the residence.
Police also interviewed Gangwer’s mother, who told police while having a Facebook conversation with her daughter, she said her former husband did not rape her. Through Facebook she told her mother that her husband told her to get her former husband in trouble and accuse him of rape.
Police spoke with Gangwer again on Sept. 28, at which time she stated she was not raped by her former husband and she made the story up because she was told to do so by her husband.
No records of the former husband being arrested or charged with the rape have been found.
She is being held on a $5,000 surety and $250 cash bond.
