Other Agenda Items Considered By School Board
SYRACUSE — During the regular monthly meeting of the Wawasee school board Tuesday, Oct. 13, in Syracuse, the board also considered the following agenda items:
• The board approved a donation of $2,500 from an anonymous donor for the science, technology, engineering and math program at Syracuse Elementary School.
• Holly Tuttle, representing Women of Today, presented a check for $1,800 as a donation to be distributed equally among the schools in the Wawasee district. The money was raised during an event at Oakwood in July.
• Dr. Tom Edington, superintendent of the Wawasee Community School Corp., noted several nice texts and comments were received from Plymouth fans following tributes given for students from Wawasee and Plymouth who took their own lives. A moment of silence was observed for both students and cheerleaders from both schools were given balloons to release at the homecoming football game. Something similar was done during a girls soccer game between both schools in late September.
• Milford School participated in Walk to School Day Oct. 7, with Dr. Edington joining in.
• A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the site of what will be the new Syracuse Elementary on Kern Road. Some earth work has already been done at the site.
• And it was noted by Joy Goshert, director of instruction and curriculum, kindergarten through second grade students in Wawasee schools toured an Ivy Tech campus Oct. 2.
