SYRACUSE — Activities at Syracuse Public Library for Oct. 12-17.
Learn About Africa And The Peace Corps
Megan McClellan is talking about the 27 months she was a Peace Corps volunteer in Niger at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14. The Peace Corps is funded with federal tax dollars and is a positive way to have interaction between Americans and people in the world.
Megan and Bob McClellan were sent to offer technical support in one of the poorest countries in the world. The McClellan’s had a unique experience because few of the Peace Corps volunteers go as married couples. Their areas of expertise were in agricultural management and material resource management. The region has become unstable so that the Peace Corps no longer sends volunteers to Niger.
McClellan has a Power Point presentation that precedes her talking about a variety of topics. Each of her presentations is a unique reflection of topics that interest the audience. Speaking at the Syracuse Library fulfills the third goal of the Peace Corps; exposing Americans to other peoples around the world. Seating for this free event is in the meeting room.
Story Time Is Enjoying The Weather
The Monday and Tuesday story times are taking a walks outside during the month of October. Story times start at 10:30 a.m. at the library. On Mondays children take story walks and on Tuesdays children discover critters — scary or sweet. All children are invited to come for an hour of stories, songs, a craft and a snack.
Children’s book club meets at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13 to play Bingo for Bears. Children from kindergarten to fifth-grade are welcome to join an evening of reading, games, and snacks. There are plenty of gummy bears for everyone.
Halloween is at the end of the month and the Syracuse Library will be inviting trick or treaters to the Enchanted Forest. Volunteers are needed to help with this annual spectacle. Teens who enjoy doing crafts and painting are working on projects for the Enchanted Forest at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15. Contact the Syracuse Library to help with set-up, costumes, or acting at (574) 457-3022.
