Milford Students Join National Walk To School Day
MILFORD — Wednesday, Oct. 7, Milford School participated in National Walk to School Day.
Led by Milford Middle School teacher Amy Evans, students convened at Milford Public Library and began their walk with a police vehicle escort by Milford Town Marshal Rich Miotto. The route began on Main Street and headed south turning west on Emeline Street.
WCSC Superintendent Dr. Tom Edington greeted the students as they made their way to the intersection at SR 15, where crossing guard Mindy Dukes and Miotto stopped traffic for the students and community members to safely cross.
Upon reaching their destination at 611 W. Emeline St., Edington continued greeting other students riding bikes and walking to school.
Walk to School Day began in 1997 with the name Walk Our Children to School. Canada and the UK joined the campaign in 2000 making in an international day of awareness that was initiated by Partnership for a Walkable America. In 2014, 4,783 schools are reported to have participated in the annual event.
