St. Joseph County Airport Welcomes South Shore Train With Ribbon Cutting
SOUTH BEND — The completion of the South Shore Train boarding platform will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 5, with a ceremony including remarks from representatives of the St. Joseph County Airport Authority and Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District.
When the South Shore Train No. 7 arrives at 12:08 p.m., the train itself will cut the ribbon with those passengers being the first to offload and board from the new platform.
The new platform, designed by BF&S, is made of composite material and replaces the 30-year-old structure. Local contractor Ziolkowski Construction, Inc. completed the project on time and on budget.
“We would like to recognize BF&S, Ziolkowski Construction and NICTD for their great work and partnership on this project,” said Mike Daigle, St. Joseph County Airport Authority Executive Director. “This new platform, funded by the Authority, will offer South Shore riders an improved experience as they start and end their trips.”
