Wawasee, Triton In Action At Merrillville
MERRILLVILLE – The boys tennis programs at Triton and Wawasee were in action Saturday at the Merrillville Tennis Invite. Wawasee placed fifth and Triton seventh in the seven-team stack.
Centerville won the tournament with 42 points, winning the two and three singles brackets. Portage, buoyed by one singles, one doubles and two doubles titles, were second with 36 points. Highland (35), Bethany Christian (32), Wawasee (26), Triton (14) and Merrillville (13) rounded out the team standings.
Top performers for Wawasee were Cal Heinisch at two singles and Nate Perek at three singles, both taking third overall. Nate Haines placed fifth in the one singles bracket and the Warrior one doubles group of Tim Conley and Dylan Staley were also fifth.
Mace Eads was fourth overall in the two singles bracket to lead the Trojan netters, picking up wins against Merrillville and Portage. Chase Butler was sixth in the three singles bracket and Gavin Eads was seventh at one singles. Dalton Bailey and Keygan Moiser were seventh in the one doubles bracket.
Wawasee closes out its Northern Lakes Conference grid Monday with a trip to NorthWood while Triton will gear up for the Hoosier North Athletic Conference, which begins Wednesday at Knox.
