Edward Stanley Quinn
Edward Stanley Quinn, 88, Bremen, passed away at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2015, in Community Hospital of Bremen.
His friends and family called him “Ed,” and his loving wife Martha called him “Eddie.” Ed was born on June 17, 1927, in Monroe, Mich., the son of the late Charles Vincent and Theresa Gertrude (DuRocher) Quinn. He spent his childhood fishing and learning how to make an honest living. Ed served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII – something he never boasted about, but was always proud of.
After returning from the War, he met Martha A. Hamblin, who worked with him at the Consolidated Paper Company. They were married in Monroe, Mich. on July 2, 1949. Ed and Martha moved to Bremen in 1961. Over the years, they made Bremen their home, raising four daughters and founding Quinn and Associates Realtors. Ed had a passion for small business ventures. In addition to his real estate business, he was the owner and developer of Williamsburg Manor in Valparaiso.
A former associate remembered him as “the master of all things real estate who ethically and smartly he moved Quinn & Associates from a small town real estate company into a driving force for good and progress.” Many in the community will remember Ed as a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, the V.F.W., American Legion and the Lion’s Club. His family will remember the joy he found in fishing, his knack for fixing things, his eye for a perfect photo, and the role he loving played as a husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife: Martha, who he spent his last days caring for. Ed is also survived by his four daughters: Patricia (Danny) Hochstetler, Goshen; Peggy (Steve Richardson) Quinn, Chicago, Ill.; Pam (Ray) Hollstein, Morenci, Mich.; and Polly (Bob) Ratchford, Muncie. His nine grandchildren will remember him always: Nicholas Bartle; Pamela (Josh Pittenger) Bartle; Katherine (Micah) Smith; Barbara Hollstein; Mary Margaret Hollstein; Edward Hollstein; Elizabeth (Doug) Kinney; Samantha (Michael Sloan) Ratchford; and Anna Marie Ratchford. He is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter: Emily Elizabeth Hollstein; sister: Mary Clark; and brother: Jack Quinn.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18, in Mishler Funeral Home, Bremen. A Mass of Christian Resurrection will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, in St. Dominic Catholic Church, Bremen. Fr. Bob Lengerich will officiate.
