Melvin R. Miller
Melvin R. Miller, 86, a lifetime resident of Nappanee, died at 5:55 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Wakarusa from complications due to recent hip surgery.
He was born March 31, 1929, to Ray J. and Edna (Miller) Miller. He married Gertrude Miller on Aug. 24, 1958.
Melvin is survived by his wife: Gertrude; a son: Mark (Audrey) Miller, Nappanee; granddaughters: Katelyn Miller; Madison Miller; sisters: Wilma Mast, Middlebury; Ada Lambright, Ava, Ill.; and many step-siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents; children: Cheryle Sharee Miller; and Craig Ray Miller; and his brother: Alvin R. Miller.
Mr. Miller served two years in alternative service at the Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis as an orderly. He served four years at Gospel League Home in Chicago, a home that provided shelter for stranded families. Melvin had worked at Borkholder Buildings for 30 years as a retail salesman. He attended Nappanee Missionary Church and was a part of the Truth Seekers Small Church.
Mel enjoyed listening to music, watching sports and playing table games. His granddaughters could always make him smile and bring laughter. He was a skilled handyman who enjoyed serving others. Mel’s sense of humor was there until the end.
Family and friends may call from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, and for one hour prior to
the funeral service which will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 14, at Nappanee Missionary Church. Pastor Joe Focht and Pastor Norm Reimer will officiate. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.
