Flight 93 Visitor Center Opens In Pennyslvania
SHANKSVILLE, PA.— The Flight 93 National Memorial opened the doors to their new $26 million visitor center complex on Thursday, one day before the annual 9/11 observances in Pennsylvania, New York, and Washington.
The new visitors’ center sits on a hill overlooking the crash site, and includes 10 exhibits that are laid out chronologically. EarthCam, a webcam that provides live streaming video, time-lapse construction, and photography documentation, has partnered with the National Park Service, The National Park Foundation, and the Friends of Flight 93 to document the construction at the new facility.
“The construction of the visitor center complex accentuates the national memorial’s transformation over the years,” said Keith Newlin, Deputy Superintendent of Western Pennsylvania Parks. “Documenting these events allows our future visitors to witness this part of the memorial’s history long after its completion. EarthCam’s time-lapse composite of these events captures the thought and effort that has gone into creating a timeless place of reverence to honor the passengers and crew of Flight 93.”
