James Lee Garman
James Lee Garman, 74, North Manchester, died at 1:35 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7, at home, surrounded by his wife and four daughters.
He was born on Oct. 7, 1941, in Warsaw, to Wayne R. and Mary (Piper) Garman, both deceased. He was an architectural draftsman at Gerald Guy and Associates in Marion for 37 years. He married Eva “Evelyn” Bradford on Aug. 1, 1981. She survives.
He graduated from Chester High School in 1959 and attended Manchester University for two years. After college, Jim enlisted in the Army National Guard where he served locally in the Midwest. He served as a Commander of the Eel River American Legion Post #286, and was a member of the North Manchester Historical Society. He was an active board member on the North Manchester Zoning Board, and North Manchester Planning Commission for 30+ years. He was an avid model train enthusiast and enjoyed music, world travel, photography and history. He was a very God loving man. Jim was able to retire early, dedicating his life to his wife, family and his beloved home. Jim designed the gazebo that resides in Warvel Park, North Manchester. James attended First Brethren Church in North Manchester.
James is also survived by his son: Nico Figueroa, Denver, Colo.; daughters: Angie (Craig) Peyton, Louisville, Ky.; Christine (David) Tench, Atlanta, Ga.; Jodi (Dennis) Egner, North Manchester; Misti (Tom) Collett, Rockaway, N.J.; grandchildren: Kalie; Kylie; Shayna; Chance; Jared; McKenna; Brandi; Isaac; Caden; Mary Evaline; Reagan; Erin; Maya; and Corey.
There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to the North Manchester Historical Society in honor of him. Arrangements are entrusted to McKee Mortuary, North Manchester.
