Cromwell Resident Identified In Fatal Accident

CLAYPOOL — Anthony Wane Gabbard, 25, Cromwell, has been identified as the operator of a motor driven cycle, moped, in a fatal accident at 3:09 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, on County Farm Road and CR 800S.
Gabbard died at the scene from blunt force trauma.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene and located Gabbard in a near-by field, northeast of the intersection. The Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office pronounced Gabbard dead at the scene.
According to 1st Sgt. Chad Hill, public information officer with the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, county Fatal Alcohol Crash Team members state the preliminary investigation has determined Gabbard had been traveling eastbound on CR 800S and failed to stop at the intersection. His MDC pulled directly into the path of a northbound Dodge Grand Caravan. The Dodge was driven by Sheldon L. Marles, 40, Warsaw.
Marles was not injured in the crash.
After impact, Gabbard was thrown from his MDC while his vehicle became lodged underneath the front of Marles’ van. The gasoline tank of the MDC ignited after the collision, but was extinguished by firefighters from the Claypool Fire Department and Warsaw/Wayne Township Fire Territory.
The accident is still under investigation.
