WEF Awards Teachers Eight Red Apple Grants
WARSAW — The Warsaw Education Foundation recently awarded over $8,000 in Red Apple Grant funds to eight Warsaw Community Schools’ teachers.
Their students began the 2015-2016 school year engaged in activities promoting health and fitness, exploring science, discovering career opportunities and expanding literary knowledge.
Red Apple Grants are awarded to teachers for classroom materials as well as school-wide projects that advance enrichment opportunities, support innovative and inventive teaching, and promote academic exploration.
Red Apple Grants awarded included:
- Literacy: Sarah Freehauf, Warsaw Community High School, Creative Writing Literary Review, $1,500; Amanda Esterline, Claypool Elementary, Literature for Learners, $502.90.
- Science: Jodi Leek, Harrison Elementary, Bee-Bots Bring STEM to Kindergarten, $1,331.76; Julie Bishopp and Jason Culver, Leesburg Elementary, Fragging a Coral Reef, $1,500; Nicole Baird, WCS Instruction Coach, Eye Opening Observations, $1,450.89.
- Health and fitness: Stacey Mehlberg, Harrison Elementary School, Minds in Motion, $272.47
- Career exploration: Marc Huffer, Warsaw Area Career Center, Fire Rescue Helmets, $1,500.
