WGU Indiana Teams Up With Indiana Farmers
INDIANAPOLIS — Western Governor’s University Indiana, the state’s online nonprofit university, today announced a corporate partnership with Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. The Carmel-based insurer is the title sponsor of Indiana Farmers Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
The partnership enables Indiana Farmers employees to receive a five percent tuition discount for up to four academic terms in pursuit of their bachelor’s or master’s degrees at WGU Indiana. The innovative, competency-based education model utilized by WGU Indiana allows students to earn their degrees at an accelerated rate.
“WGU students are most often working adults. Many are employees of Indiana’s biggest companies who carry a lot on their plates both personally and professionally,” said WGU Indiana Chancellor Allison Barber. “Offering a competency-based education model gives our students the flexibility to work toward their educational goals while also keeping their commitments to work and family.”
Indiana Farmers employees can now earn their degrees by demonstrating mastery of subject matter, completing coursework online at any time convenient to their lives. Those who enroll in one of WGU Indiana’s four colleges — business, information technology, education, or nursing — will also find that tuition has not increased since the university’s establishment in 2010. Tuition for nearly every program costs a flat rate of $6,000 per year. WGU Indiana has not raised tuition since inception in 2010
“We appreciate the partnership with WGU Indiana and support their mission of building a stronger workforce through helping more Hoosiers achieve their educational goals,” said Trish Stanley, Human Resources Manager of Indiana Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. “We hope our colleagues interested in further education will utilize this opportunity.”
In addition to the tuition discount made available through the new partnership, students that matriculate to WGU Indiana have access to hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships. In 2015, the university awarded over $400,000 in scholarships to students.
