Fog Lifts For Dodds Memorial Tournament
LEESBURG – After a foggy and wet start it ended up being a beautiful day for the Steve Dodds Memorial Golf Tournament. The annual event was once again held on the the pristine fairways and greens of Tippecanoe Lake Country Club and put on by the Cancer Care Fund of Kosciusko County. Participants opened their hearts, and their wallets, for a great cause as funds raised go to financially assist cancer patients in Kosciusko County.
208 players in total hit the links Monday morning and afternoon but only one foursome took home bragging rights for next year. Scott Beasley, Vince Beasley, Clint Beasley and Matt Dick hit the course during the afternoon wave and turned in a tournament-best 47.
The heavy morning fog could not deter 22 teams from hitting the dew-covered links. The team of J.T. Croy, Justin Jones, Chris Clark and Evan Bentley took first for the men with a final tally of 51. First place for the ladies went to the team of Marcia McNagny, Vicki Sasso, Susan Findlay and Christie Fitzpatrick who shot a 60. Sue Noppert, Shane Hartle, Nick Deeter and Ryan Schlotterback shot a 55 to claim first in the morning’s mixed gender division.
In the afternoon in felt like late-August weather as 30 teams played the course and it was a 50 that brought home the low score for the men. Bob Miller, Jason Miller, Jerry Clevenger and Gene Sponseller signed for that solid score. For the ladies it was Betty Butterbaugh, Pam Vancil, Jo Manwaring and Nancy Witt taking top honors with a 73. The mixed division was won by the team of Tom Rutter, Tom Stark, Janet Piepenbrink and Erica Waldron. The foursome shot a 56.
Kerry Rookstool, Cathy Sincroft, Clint Beasley, Sue Noppert, Vicki Sasso, Gene Sponseller, Mary Beth Tribble and Gabe Ayres took home the tournament’s various “closest to the pin” honors. Tribble also earned “longest putt” honors. Jay Garr and Marcia McNagny had the longest drives for their respective genders.
Andy Wolf was this year’s chairman and helped to line up hole-in-one sponsorship from area businesses. Other committee members for 2015 are Paulette Davis, Julia Moore, Jeff Wells, Scott Campbell, Bob Miller, Ron Smock and Dave Mayer.
