School Board Holds Special Budget Hearing
SYRACUSE — A special and brief meeting was held late Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 25, by the Wawasee school board in Syracuse for the main purpose of a budget hearing. The budget process continues to move forward and Tuesday’s meeting was a public hearing, though no public input was given.
Jim Evans, director of finance for the Wawasee Community School Corp., said the budget has been advertised in local newspapers and he provided the board proof of publication. The school board will consider adoption of the budget at the regular monthly meeting of the board at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the Warrior Room of Wawasee High School.
The only other agenda item was the approval of a few personnel changes. Among those was approving the resignation of Audrey Fireline as a functional skills teacher at North Webster Elementary School. Her resignation is effective Aug. 21.
Dr. Tom Edington, superintendent, said “this is one of those years where every position was not filled by the start of the school year.” He noted it is anticipated the functional skills teacher position will be filled soon.
