Shaking Things Up A Little Bit
Volunteers with the Cancer Care Fund of Kosciusko County decided to “shake things up a little bit,” in 2015, said Jennifer Stewart, K21 Health Foundation executive assistant and communications coordinator.
As a result, 2014s Battle of the Bands was replaced by two new events: “The Life, the Love and the Passion of Fashion, held last April, and “The First Freaky 5K Family Halloween Run/Walk,” to be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, at the K21 Health Pavilion, 2170 North Pointe Drive, Warsaw. The race will take place on the Lake City Greenway.
Organizer Ron Smock was one of those looking for new ways to raise funds. “I’d gotten into running myself,” he said, so the idea of a run/walk came naturally. Combining it with Halloween also gave CCF a great event to hold later in the year.
“We’re hoping people dress up,” stated Smock. Often, kids only get to wear their costumes once a year. The Halloween Run/Walk affords them the opportunity to sport their masks, hats, face paints and go trick-or-treating earlier in the day.
Race day registration is from 7:30-9 a.m., with a pre-race program at 9 a.m. There will also be trick-or-treating at 11 a.m.
Online pre-registration is available until Oct. 21 or by mailing the form to: K21 Health Foundation, P.O. Box 1810, Warsaw, IN., 46581-1810.
The pre-race registration fee is $25 per person, $45 per couple and $55 per family, including a T-shirt (same household — limit four). Race day fees are $30 per person, $55 per couple and $60 per family. T-shirts will be available while supplies last. All the net proceeds go to Cancer Care Fund of Kosicusko County.
This will be a Kosciusko Runners’ Association-timed event. The title sponsor is Lutheran Health Care Network at Kosciusko County Hospital.
