Tigers Get Rare Win At Westview
TOPEKA – While the boys soccer team hosted Argos in a super rare matchup of area teams just steps from the tennis facility, the boys tennis team from Warsaw hit the road to meet another new face.
In a evenly distributed show of force, Warsaw claimed a 4-1 win at Westview Tuesday in the season opener for both teams. It was the first time in the program’s history the two teams met on opening day.
Singles play was all Warsaw in the end, though matches were well played. Justin Stout had his hands full with Austin Hostetler, dropping the first set 6-3 to the Westview ace but rallying to claim the win after 6-3, 6-3 scores in the final two sets. David Homme held on for a 7-5 win in the first set of the two singles tangle with Trey Bazonna and came back for a 6-2 win to clinch. Ryan Wettschurack settled in for a 6-2, 6-3 win at three over Jeryl Weaver.
Two doubles for the Tigers had Andrew Gauger and Hudson Snyder pair up to take care of Alex Stutzman and Ryan Barber two and one.
One doubles would go to Westview’s Andrew Yoder and Zach Schroch, which defeated Christopher Herendeen and Colton Lind 6-1, 6-1.
Warsaw’s junior varsity were up to the task on each court, winning 8-0.
Claiming singles courts for the Tigers were Spencer Britton, Nolan Knight, Reuben Williams and Bryce Pequignot.
Doubles winners were the pairings of Hayden Steger and Keeton Bartol, Nick Marsh and Ethan Hoff, Kyle Bartol and Diego Miguel, and Jacob Grimm and Darrin Knisley.
The Tigers (1-0) are back on the road Wednesday night against Huntington North.
