Lois Wilcox Myette
Lois Wilcox Myette, 95, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 1, at Champaign County Nursing Home in Urbana, Ill.
She was born Sept. 10, 1919, in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., to Edward and Corda Wilcox and graduated from Chesbrough Seminary in North Chili, N.Y., in 1939 with a degree in bookkeeping. On Aug. 27, 1941, she married her childhood sweetheart, the Rev. Philip Edmund Myette. They served on pastorates in New York and Maine for 23 years and shared 72 years together until his death in Feb. 2014.
Lois was a pastor’s wife who took her job seriously and was actively involved in the church through music and ministries to women and children. She had the gift of hospitality and entertained often. Lois loved to encourage and minister to others. She shared her love of music with her family, teaching each of her children to sing. Lois became a Christian at an early age and served her Lord faithfully until the end of her life.
After moving to Winona Lake, she worked at the Free Methodist World Headquarters in the Women’s Missionary Society and the General Missionary Board. In retirement, she and Phil helped build churches in Florida and Arizona and served as ministers of visitation at the Free Methodist church in Winona Lake, Ind.
She is survived by her three children: Karen (Michael) Doty, Oxnard, Calif.; Barbara (Paul) Benson, Anacortes, Wash.; and Philip (Linda) Myette, Greenville, Ill.; five grandchildren: Richard (Christina) Edmonds, Oxnard, Calif.; Rachel (Jim) Killinger, Dunlap; Melinda (Marcus) Kephart, Anacortes; Steven Benson, Indianapolis; and Benjamin (Katie) Myette, Brighton, Ill.; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sisters: Pearl Myer; and Alice Robinson.
A family celebration will be held in September with interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to International Childcare Ministries, Free Methodist World Ministries Center, Indianapolis.
