Bone City Falls Short Of Gem
DAYTON, OH – It was a second half to forget for the Bone City Rollers last weekend. What was a diamond in the first half turned all sorts of cubic zirconium as a seven-point edge for the Rollers fell into a 147-98 victory for the Gem City Violet Femmes in roller derby action Saturday night.
A very hard-hitting, physical bout with skaters literally flying off the track left and right saw a slick concrete surface play into Gem City’s hands. Bone City managed to hold form in the first half, taking a 72-65 lead into the break, but the second half was all jewels for the home team. Asserting the pace from the whistle, the Violet Femmes took control and strongarmed Bone City to just 33 second-half points.
Bone City’s next bout will be at home Saturday, August 29, at Hansen Eastlake Skate starting at 5 p.m. In town will be Killamazoo to do battle. The charity for the bout will be Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Partnering with Willie 103.5, the radio station will have free tickets to the Day at the Lakes Concert at the bout.
Bout MVPs for Bone City included Katie ‘Sneak A Kat’ Curry, Casey ‘AK Rolling 7’ Rinker and Laura ‘Yukon Nail Her’ Kneller.
The bout held a ‘Christmas In July’ theme that helped raise school supplies for local children.
