Wayne Township Will Stick With Multi-Township
WARSAW — Residents of Wayne Township can rest assured, they will have ambulance service for the next six months.
The Wayne Township Advisory Board met Thursday, July 23, to discuss ambulance service contracts, particularly the existing contract with Multi-Township EMS.
The board advised Township Trustee Sheila Burner to renew the contract with Multi-Township, with one amendment.
The board maintained the right to void the contract if Multi-Township was ever sold to another entity. That day has come and, with this knowledge, two other ambulance services — Tri-County Ambulance Services and Parkview Hospital — came forward and expressed interest in contracting with Wayne Township.
Multi-Township EMS was recently acquired by Kosciusko Community Hospital.
During discussion, it was noted that, as worded in the contract, there will be a period where negotiations are taking place with only Multi-Township and no other ambulance service. Concerns came up over the event that negotiations should fail prior to the Dec. 31, deadline, the township would be without ambulance services until a new contract could be agreed upon.
The board suggested adding wording that, in the event negotiations should fail before Dec. 31, would extend the contract out three months while a new contract was being worked out.
