Cubs Baez Honored By Midwest League
SOUTH BEND – Jeffrey Baez today became the third South Bend Cubs player to win Midwest League Player of the Week honors.
The 21-year old Baez in six games collected fourteen hits in twenty-six plate appearances for a .538 batting average. The Venezuela native also collected three doubles, three home runs, drove in ten runs and scored eight times.
Baez had six straight multi-hit games last week.
The right-handed hitting Baez joins Cael Brockmeyer (currently with Triple-A Iowa) and Yasiel Balaguert as South Bend Cubs who have won the Midwest Player of the Week award this season.
Baez joined the Chicago Cubs organization as a non-drafted free agent in 2010.
The Cubs host the Great Lakes Loons in game one of a three game series at Four Winds Field Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
