WARSAW – Everyone was just happy they beat the rain.

The final day of the Baseball Players Association World Series for the 10U and 13U age groups at the CCAC saw teams trying to get games over with before the bad weather zeroed in on Kosciusko County.

All told, the New Haven Bulldogs Black 10U team and the Granger Cubs 13U team each stood tallest as champions of each respective baseball tournament Saturday.

New Haven ran 6-0 in the 10U tournament, marching into the championship bracket and winning its final two games against the AWP Cubs Blue team from Fort Wayne. A 14-2 win in the semi-final by New Haven sent AWP to the get-back bracket, where AWP rallied with a 9-2 win over Duneland Flyers to get back to the championship game of the double elimination tournament. Duneland lost its first game to AWP Blue Friday afternoon.

New Haven crushed AWP Cubs Blue, 11-0, in the championship game. AWP finished 4-2 in the tournament.

The Granger Cubs 13U baseball team went 6-0 to claim the championship at the Baseball Players Association World Series held at the CCAC in Warsaw.

A similar scenario beset the 13U brackets, as champion Granger Cubs ran 5-0 and won its last two games against the same opponent. Granger defeated LaPorte Sluggers 9-8 in an exciting championship game, only after LaPorte had to work its way back into the title bracket after losing to Granger, 8-2, earlier in the day.

LaPorte defeated the Summit City Sliders, 5-2, to reach the championship game and ended its tournament 4-2 overall. Ironically, Summit City lost its two games to LaPorte, the first coming Friday in the quarterfinals.
