Terre Haute Radio Station Reportedly Hacked By ‘Anonymous’ Activist Group
The Terre Haute radio station WXXR 97.3 was reportedly hacked by the activist group “Anonymous” at approximately 7:30 p.m. Sunday, July 12.
According to reports the FM signal was intercepted, stopping regularly scheduled music programming unexpectedly, and a message saying it was “intended for the American people” was played instead.
Listeners heard a cryptic message claiming to be from Anonymous, which started off with “We are Anonymous. We would like to take a few minutes of your time to inform you about the United States government’s plan to murder over 100 million citizens.”
The message continued on with statements including “We’re not here to discuss this but to help save the people,” and “The United States of secrecy has kept you all blind.” After 30 minutes, the station returned to the music playlist.
“We are unaware of where the broadcast origin is,” stated Doug Kirkman of WXXR. “It did actually appear to be coming underneath our actual signal. When we looked at our computers and everything at the broadcast station, everything appeared normal though it was quite obviously not normal.”
Authorities are continuing to investigate the event.
