Silver Lake Council Discusses Grants
Grants were a main topic of discussion during the Silver Lake Town Council meeting, held Wednesday, July 1.
The pavilion at Rambler Park is now complete, with an additional ramp and steps to be completed at an undetermined date in the near future.
Laura Hamann of USDA Rural Development is to present a check today for the town’s new police vehicle. In addition, the Cops Grant has been turned in.
It was announced that blighted properties have 60 days to move forward with a grant before bids are taken for demolition.
As far as the Sediment Removal Planning Grant, the town voted unanimously to accept a proposal from Sediment Removal Solutions for $9,000 with 10 percent of in-kind services for the town. The council had also received a proposal from Integrated Lakes Management for $8,850, also with 10 percent of in-kind services for the town.
The council discussed NIPSCO LED street lights and plans to receive more information.
In Other News
Silver Lake Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley brought up the 2016 budget, asking for a decision on how much to budget for employees and elected officials. The decision was a 3 percent raise for 2016, with the cost of living increase for 2016 projected at 2.75 percent.
The town marshal will pay $3,200 for police equipment and the new police vehicle is complete.
McNeal reported an accident while responding to a sewer alarm, with the truck a total loss. A special meeting will be set to discuss the purchase of a new vehicle.
The next meeting is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at Silver Lake Town Hall.
