Parade Showcases Small Town Pride
Frank Rhoades, Kosciusko County fair parade organizer, recalls the humble beginnings of the fair parade that has grown into the traditional start of week of family fun. “The parade began as a way for people to see the Echo of the Past tractors on display.”
Rhoades reports the number of spectators at the antique tractor exhibit grew to a size that made it necessary for the tractors to parade around the grandstand track, giving a better view. In time the parade expanded beyond the fairgrounds and into the streets.
Now the parade is a “celebration to the beginning of the fair, honoring those involved,” said Rhoades, adding, “It has attracted more and more people to the fair on Sunday. With free admission, it is a great way for families to see the 4-H animals.”
The parade features categories that is sure to bring out the small town pride. Categories include 4-H, antique vehicles and floats to name a few. Registration has ended but is not required for participation.
The parade organizer invites everyone wishing to join the parade to stop by and check in at the table on McKinley and Durbin Street at 3 p.m.
The parade is scheduled for start at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 12, at the intersection of McKinley and Durbin street and will turn West at Winona Avenue and proceed to Smith Street, then to the fairgrounds at the west entrance. This is a rain or shine event.
