Anything Goes With Sweet Peppers Contest
The Elkhart County 4-H Fair is adding a culinary contest to this year’s Home & Family Arts Department Open Class contests, according to Mary Ann Lienhart Cross, extension educator.
The National Garden Bureau has declared 2015 as the year of the sweet pepper. Sweet peppers are wonderful sweet vegetables that are packed with many vitamins, are nutrient-dense and grow in many sizes and colors. The “Anything Goes with Sweet Peppers” contest will be held on Saturday, July 25, during the Elkhart County 4-H Fair.
The requirements for the entry are that the dish’s main ingredient must be sweet peppers and be homemade. A copy of the recipe must accompany the entry and be typed or neatly written on an 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper. Exhibitor name, address and phone number should be included on the backside of the recipe. There is no pre-registration, participants are limited to one entry, and the entry fee is the admission to the fair.
Participants will bring their “Anything Goes with Sweet Peppers” entries to the Home and Family Arts building between 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. July 25, with judging at noon. The top three entries will be selected by the judges and receive awards.
The Home & Family Arts Committee looks forward to many entries from appetizers, salsas, soups, and main dishes to desserts. Questions about the contest should be directed to Lienhart Cross at (574) 533-0554 or email at [email protected].
