Shirley L. McVey
Shirley L. McVey, 88, Pittsboro, formerly of Mentone, died at 5:40 a.m. Sunday, June 21, 2015, at Brownsburg Health Care, Brownsburg. She was born April 9, 1927, in South Kingstown, Wakefield Village, R.I. to Ziba and Marian (Phillips) Young.
She was married June 3, 1955, in North Kingston, R.I., to Rev. Norman McVey. He survives. Shirley was a graduate of North Kingstown High School in Rhode Island. She and her husband lived in Mentone when he was the Pastor of the First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Pittsboro Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband: Rev. Norman McVey, Pittsboro; daughter: Brenda (David) Letcher, Osceola; son: David (Mary) McVey, Spring Hills, Tenn.; grandchildren: Danielle Brinkerhoff; Elizabeth McVey; Lt. Nathan (Brooke) McVey.
Shirley was preceded in death by parents: Ziba and Marian Young; sisters: Barbara Williams and twin: Anita Young; brother: Rev. Edwin O. Young.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at Mentone First Baptist Church, Mentone, with Rev. George Shoemaker and Pastor Michael Wilhite officiating. Visitation hours will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. before the service Saturday. Burial will be at Mentone Cemetery.
