Etling Transferring To LSU
WEST LAFAYETTE – Former Purdue University starting quarterback Danny Etling has found a new football home.
LSU head coach Les Miles and his staff added another quarterback to their roster Monday as Etling, who declared he was leaving the Purdue program following last season, will transfer to LSU and plans to enroll this fall.
By rule, Etling will have to sit out the 2015 season, but the former ESPN 300 quarterback will still have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2016. He signed with Purdue in February 2013, and over the course of two seasons, he appeared in 13 games and threw for 2,490 yards, 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
The move gives LSU four scholarship quarterbacks on the roster this fall with Etling, Anthony Jennings, Brandon Harris and Justin McMillan. The Tigers also have a commitment from ESPN 300 quarterback Feleipe Franks, who is expected to join the mix in 2016.
Jennings and Harris both held starting roles for the Tigers last season, which fell to Notre Dame in the Music City Bowl in December. Neither quarterback emerged as the clear-cut starter, while Etling threw for 800 yards and six touchdowns in five games for the Boilermakers. Etling lost his starting job to Austin Appleby in mid-season.
Etling already has a small connection to LSU as he grew up in Terre Haute, the same place where current Tigers offensive coordinator Cam Cameron played his high school ball.
Etling visited both Arkansas and LSU before making his decision.
