Roy Howard Collier
Roy Howard Collier, 88, Larwill, passed away at 4:40 a.m. Friday June 19, 2015, at his residence.
Born on September 12, 1926, in Eolia, Ky., he was the son of J. Ballard and Hila (Branson) Collier. He grew up in Kentucky and married Mildred “Midge” Bush on July 6, 1950, in Clintwood, Va.
Roy proudly served his country in the U.S Army from 1945 to 1947 and also in the US Navy during 1948. After he was discharged from military service they moved to Detroit, Mich. It was in 1956 that they moved to Whitley County.
Roy worked for the Amplex Division of the Chrysler Corporation in Detroit, then later worked for the Dana Corporation as a press operator. He retired on April 1, 1991.
Survivors include his daughters: Brenda Duty of Pierceton and Karen Brandel, Larwill; son: Glen (Connie) Collier, Columbia City; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and sister: Lydia Kaminski.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter: Deborah Ivy; son: Robert Lee Collier; grandson: Clint Collier; granddaughter: Jessica Fields; sisters: Stacy Halcomb and Louise Ernst; and brothers: Leonard, Vincent “Lonnie”, Ed, and Forester Collier.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday June 23 at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday June 24 at the funeral home with calling one hour prior to service. Certified Funeral Celebrant Sharon Brockhaus will be officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton, with Military Graveside Rites conducted by Whitley County Korean War Veterans, US Army, and US Navy.
