Sawed-Off Shotguns To Become Legal In Indiana July 1
A new law goes into effect July 1 allowing the legal manufacturing, selling or owning of a sawed-off or short-barreled shotgun in Indiana.
The law does come with restrictions. The shotgun must measure at least 26 inches in overall length and the owner must have proper permits and register the shotgun accordingly with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Registration will cost approximately $200 and may take six to nine months for the paperwork and background check to be processed. More information can be found on the ATF’s website.
Prior to the law going into effect, owning, selling or manufacturing a sawed-off shotgun was a felony in Indiana. The bill was approved earlier this year by the General Assembly to bring state law in line with federal regulations.
