Frantz Fantastic In All-Stars Win
LEXINGTON – Jordyn Frantz played a big part in a big win for the Indiana All-Star girls basketball team Friday night.
Frantz, a former standout at NorthWood High School, popped in 15 points as the Indiana squad used a huge second half performance to rout Kentucky 93-49 in the first game of the annual series at Transylvania University.
Frantz, who is headed to play at Saint Louis University, hit 5-8 shots from the field. She was 4-6 from 3-point range and also had three rebounds and three assists in 17 minutes of playing time.
Indiana led just 30-25 at halftime before opening the final half with a 23-6 run to take command. Kentucky made just nine field goals in the second half.
Miss Basketball Ali Patberg of Columbus North, who is headed to play at Notre Dame, tied Frantz for team-high scoring honors with 15 points.
Indiana, which had five players score in double figures in the win, hit 11-20 on 3-pointers. Kentucky was just 1-13 from beyond the arc.
Former Fort Wayne Canterbury star Darby Maggard had nine points on a trio of triples and five rebounds for the winners.
Tiara Murphy, a South Bend Washington product and Purdue recruit, had five points. Madeline Raster, who played at South Bend St. Joseph, had four points, four rebounds and three assists.
Indiana now leads the girls’ all-time series 44-35.
The Indiana boys’ team pulled out an 83-80 win Friday night.
Ryan Cline, who will play at Purdue, hit a layup late to seal the win. Cline led the Indiana squad with 23 points on the night.
Devin Cannady, who starred at Mishawaka Marian High School, had six points and a steal in 14 minutes of acton for the All-Star team. Cannady will play at Princeton University.
The Indiana team was without Mr. Basketball and Purdue recruit Caleb Swanigan. The former star at Homestead High School in Fort Wayne is attending a tryout for the U.S. National Team in Colorado this week.
The All-Star series is set to shift to Indianapolis Saturday night. The girls game will begin at 5 p.m. with the boys contest to follow at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
