Indy Student In Custody For Bringing Handgun To Summer School
A 16 year old summer school student at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis was taken into custody today for carrying a handgun into the school, according to a release from Wayne Township Schools.
The student was attending classes at the Ben Davis ninth grade center when administrators discovered that he was carrying a handgun. It was not loaded and was recovered by school officials without incident. The student has not been identified.
Following school protocol, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the school to take the student into custody. Parents of students attending the summer school program were informed of the incident via an automated call this afternoon.
School continued as scheduled after the incident.
