Wawasee Summer Projects Focused On High School
There wasn’t enough money left to finish last year’s summer capital projects fund list, so the Wawasee Community School Corp. is doing a little catchup this year.
Summer construction and-or renovation projects are done each year throughout the school corporation using CPF money, which is but a piece of the annual budget. This year, most of the projects will occur at Wawasee High School.
Quite a bit of work is planned for the high school’s TV production studio, following up on last year’s work in the radio area. The walls will be soundproofed in the TV studio and two pieces of soundproof glass will be installed. New floor coverings will be installed in the studio and production areas.
Within the auxiliary gym, there will be re-patching, repairing and spot painting of some of the walls. A few doors will be replaced too. Ceiling tiles and grids will be replaced in the gymnasium hallways and new LED light fixtures will be installed too. Two sets of outside doors leading into the athletic office area will be replaced.
In the training room a new air handler will be installed, new LED light fixtures installed, there will be painting and the floor covering and plumbing fixtures will be replaced. Ceiling tiles and grids will be replaced and so will several doors.
At Wawasee Middle School, two trailers built by high school Geometry In Construction students will be placed on slabs after the cement is poured. Ramps will be built, too, and utility and sewage lines connected to the trailers. The trailers will be used for restrooms and concessions and will be located west of the bleachers inside the fence.
Unlike some years, there are no major projects this summer, noted Bob Lahrman, director of support services for the school corporation.
Milestone Construction, Syracuse, was awarded the general contracting bid earlier this year. Work is expected to begin this week on summer projects.
